Trophy Design

Inspired by the internet sensation “Hot Ones”, “Hot 901’s” is an annual event held by a group of Memphians who are passionate about competition and hot wings. I had the honor of designing the trophies given to the top finishers.

When planning the trophy, I wanted to achieve a modern look by finding a way to blend smooth, organic shapes and sharp edges.

The workflow I chose to use leveraged subdivision surface modifiers, boolean operations, and edge creasing to achieve the final form. Keeping the model separated into individual parts gave me a lot of control over the proportions and silhouette of the piece. I also worked to make sure they would fit within my 3D printer’s capabilities and that they would be easy to assemble.

The process of transforming the 3D prints into the final trophies:

Curing and cleaning excess resin

Sanding and Cleaning

Priming and Painting

The trophies were a huge hit, and the process of creating them taught me a lot about using strong, clear shape language to create striking and memorable pieces.
